Cristina Rivera MS, RD, CSSD, CDN


Cristina is a Registered Dietitian and board certified sports nutritionist. She received her Master's of Science degree in Clinical Nutrition from NYU. Her clinical work at NYU Hospital of Joint Diseases, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Bellevue Hospital together provide her with a strong background in medical nutrition therapy and nutritional counseling. Her areas of expertise include sports and performance nutrition, weight loss, GI disorders, cholesterol management, eating disorders, diabetes, hypertension, and oncology. Additionally, Cristina has experience with behavior modification, which she uses to help her clients change detrimental behaviors and achieve and maintain their desired goals. Cristina delivers group talks and presentations focusing on sports nutrition, eating disorders, and weight management. She works in conjunction with Lauren as a nutritionist for the Asphalt Green's Lose to Win Contest, providing weight loss and nutrition advice to participants. Cristina has provided a presentation on sports nutrition at New York University for the athletic coaches and directors on how to fuel their athletes. Furthermore, Cristina presented a lecture on healthy eating and wellness to Queens College students during Eating Disorder Awareness Week.

SPORTS & PERSONAL INTERESTS:
Cristina has a longstanding passion for physical activity, in particular, running and dance. As a dancer for more than 10 years, she focused on Latin dancing, flamenco, and belly dancing. Cristina no longer dances formally, but she still enjoys recreational dancing. As an avid runner, Cristina understands the importance of proper fueling and hydration during endurance events for optimal performance.
PHILOSOPHY:
Cristina believes in a holistic approach to nutrition and health. She feels that environmental, physiological, and social cues, combined with cognitive self-perceptions, influence an individual’s eating behaviors and food choices. Cristina’s use of nutrition education and behavior modification, along with her belief in reinforcing positive behavior, are all crucial to her counseling method.
